Important Residence Application and Admission Requirements
Please take note of the following requirements before submitting your residence application:
- Meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen or intended programme of study does not guarantee placement in a University residence. Residence placement is subject to the availability of space in each residence and the University's residence admission criteria.
- Junior Residence Applicants – Bloemfontein Campus: Applicants must have a minimum Grade 12 Admission Point (AP) of 30 and must be 22 years of age or younger.
- Postgraduate Residence Applicants: Applicants must have passed at least 120 credits to qualify for admission to a residence. Applicants must be a Postgraduate applicant/student or older than 23 years, whichever comes first.
- Academic merit: Residence admission is determined using the most recent Admission Point (AP) calculated by the University, whether based on Grade 11 or Grade 12 results, as applicable.
- If you were admitted to a residence based on your Grade 11 AP, but your final Grade 12 AP falls below the required minimum, your residence admission will be cancelled.
- If your current AP, based on your final Grade 11 results or Grade 12 June results, is below the required minimum, you may still apply for residence accommodation. You may qualify for residence placement, subject to availability, if your final Grade 12 AP is 30 or higher.
- If you were registered at the University of the Free State or another tertiary institution for a second or subsequent year, you must have passed at least 120 credits to qualify for admission to a residence.
- Current first-year students will qualify for residence admission based on their final Grade 12 AP, subject to the applicable residence admission requirements and availability of accommodation.
IMPORTANT:
Submission of a residence application does not constitute or guarantee an offer of residence accommodation. All applications are considered according to the University's applicable admission criteria, academic merit, age requirements, and the availability of space in residences.
