The faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of the Free State will be hosting a first-ever Ancestors Day academic conference and celebrations in honour of our Ancestor’s contribution towards democracy and leadership. This event coincides with the proposed 08th May Ancestors Day and supports calls to make this day an official national day. Conference papers on the 8th of May 2025 focus on themes, among others, African spirituality, imperialism, cultural hegemony, chieftaincy, Afro-leadership, etc.
The 9th of May 2025 is the official celebration of the day; celebrations will feature traditional music, dance, and poetry. Come, let’s drink from our own wells!!
